How to get there
Morelia, is strategically located in the center of Mexico, with an international airport, and connected by highways to the most important cities of the country. It is 3.5 hours away from Mexico City and Guadalajara.
There are many daily flights to Morelia from Mexico City by Aeromar. There are also direct flights from Guadalajara, Querétaro, Tepic and Tijuana by Aeromexico.
From the United States, Continental has a direct flight from Houston and there are also direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose.
Morelia´s airport, Francisco J. Mújica, is 25 minutes away by car from downtown Morelia. There are official taxis that offer this service or you can rent a car at any of the agencies at the terminal.

Modern highways connect Morelia with Mexico City, Guadalajara and Ixtapa – Zihuatanejo. The highway from Mexico City goes through Toluca, Atlacamulco and Maravatio. The highway from Guadalajara goes by La Barca, northeast of Lake Chapala. The tolls for Mexico City to Morelia highways is around 309 pesos and from Guadalajara to Morelia around 335 pesos one way.
The road Ruta 43 also connects Morelia with Guanajuato (2.5 hours) and San Miguel de Allende (3 hours).
There is a four-lane highway, Ruta 120, that connects Morelia with Pátzcuaro (40 minutes), Tzintzunzan (45 minutes) and Santa Clara del Cobre (50 minutes).
If you travel from Mexico City, go to the Terminal Poniente Observatorio where you can buy your tickets to Morelia on La Línea, Autovías, Vía Plus, ETN, Pegaso y Primera Plus lines. Ask for direct service that goes along the Morelia highway. The trip lasts around 4 hours and there are 3 or 4 buses daily.
If you come from Guadalajara you can use the same bus companies. The trip is 3.5 hours long.
From Guanajuato, the best lines are Primera Plus and Servicios Coordinados. There are 6 buses a day.
