Ilse Hughan

Originaria de Ámsterdam, Holanda, Ilse Hughan ingresó al ámbito cinematográfico por medio del subtitulaje, después de haber estudiado francés e italiano en la universidad. Colaboró en varias películas holandesas como asistente de producción, dirección y edición. De 1988 a 1992 fue una de las encargadas de la distribución de los documentales y películas independientes en la Cineteca de Ámsterdam. Los últimos diez años ha trabajado en el Festival Internacional de Rótterdam. Es miembro del Comité de Selección del Fondo Hubert Bals, organización dedicada a apoyar la realización de películas en países en desarrollo. Últimamente se ha interesado en la producción, que considera como una forma íntima de compromiso. Será la productora asociada de Sangre, el nuevo proyecto del argentino Lisandro Alonso, cuya encantadora opera prima, La Libertad obtuvo gran reconocimiento en varios festivales internacionales de cine. En 1992 Ilse Hughan decidió revivir Fortuna Films, una compañía de Ámsterdam fundada por su abuelo en 1911 que se dedicaba a vender y distribuir documentales de cineastas como Heddy Honigmann, Jos de Putter, Andreas Hoessli y Peter Liechti.

Born in Amsterdam, Ilse Hughan entered cinema through subtitling after studying French and Italian in college. She collaborated in many Dutch fiction films as assistant producer, director and editor. From 1988 to 1992 she distributed independently produced fiction and documentary films at the Amsterdam Cinematheque. For the past 10 years she has been working for the Rotterdam International Film Festival and is a member of the Hubert Bals Fund selection, which supports films from developing countries. Lately she is feeling more and more drawn towards film production, which she considers an intimate form of commitment. She will be the associate producer of Sangre, the new film from Lisandro Alonso (Argentina), whose disarming and original feature debut, La Libertad (2000), received much recognition from various international film festivals and elsewhere. In 1992, Ilse Hughan decided to revive Amsterdam-based Fortuna Films, a company establishes by her grandfather in 1911. Fortuna Films specialized in selling and distributing documentaries from filmmakers such as Heddy Honigmann, Jos de Putter, Andreas Hoessli and Peter Liechti.
