COSME, Álvaro Curiel de Icaza's Fourth Feature Film, Was Presented at the 24th FICM

Director Álvaro Curiel de Icaza presented his fourth feature film, Cosme, at the 24th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), where he was accompanied by a large part of the film's cast and by Daniela Michel, founder and general director of the festival.

Carlos Moreno Cravioto, Erando González, Mercedes Hernández, Aleyda Gallardo, Abril Manrique, Mauricio Pimentel, Eréndira Ibarra, Leo Canul, and Alejandra Bogue walked the festival’s red carpet for the film’s premiere.

Addressing a packed theater, the director thanked Morelia for always welcoming him with open arms since the beginning of his career. Curiel de Icaza participated in the 2nd edition of the FICM with his short fiction film Si un instante (2003) and later won the Audience Award at the 8th FICM for his debut feature, Acorazado (2009). “Morelia is my home; Daniela has always welcomed me with open arms, ever since I made my first short film,” he added.

Daniela Michel thanked the cast and the director for their presence at this year’s festival: “It is a truly unique film—full of emotion and genuinely beautiful. We believe you are going to have a wonderful screening experience,” she said.

The feature film follows the story of Cosme, who travels from town to town with his teenage daughter, Abril, in a dilapidated van, scraping by through music and small street performances. Upon returning to his hometown, the ghosts of his past resurface: a fractured family, old betrayals, and the life that could have been. While Cosme is mired in nostalgia and pride, Abril begins to discover the world for herself with a lucidity that transcends her young age.
