FICM Reveals the Official Selection for Its 24th Edition!

Since 2003, the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) has worked tirelessly to promote the work of Mexican filmmakers through its Official Selection, which consists entirely of Mexican films.

This year, FICM is pleased to announce that there are 96 films in its 24th edition competition: 8 films in the Michoacán Section (7 short films and 1 feature film), 64 titles in the Mexican Short Film Section (17 animated, 11 documentary, and 36 fiction), 12 films in the Mexican Documentary Section, and 12 films in the Mexican Feature Film Section.

The 96 selected films, directed by filmmakers from 17 states across Mexico, will compete in their respective sections for El Ojo, a sculpture created by Michoacán artist Javier Marín and the top prize awarded by FICM, as well as financial incentives and other prizes.

Of the films in the Official Selection for the 24th FICM, 40% are directed by women. Additionally, four films in this year’s competition were directed by filmmakers from Indigenous communities.

The winning short films in the Fiction, Animation, and Documentary categories, as well as the winning documentary in the “Eye on Mexican Documentary Feature” category, will be automatically eligible for an Oscar® nomination.

In addition, some of the short films from this year’s Official Selection may be invited to a special out-of-competition screening at the next Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2027.

#FICM2026 will take place from October 16 to 25, with live screenings in Morelia, Michoacán, and virtual screenings through nuestrocine.mx.

Once again, we celebrate that #MoreliaEsCineMexicano.
