Gallardo As part of the 23rd Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), filmmaker David Pablos held a press conference about his new film, En el camino (2025), a stark portrait of loneliness, vulnerability, and the human connections that arise in spaces of abandonment.Joining the director were producer Inna Payán; production designer Belén Estrada; cinematographer Ximena Amann; actors Víctor Miguel Prieto and Oswaldo Sánchez; and acting coach Patricia Ortiz, who spoke about the production.Despite his well-known ability to narrate from the cracks of intimacy, this film represented a risky venture for the director. “The naked male body is portrayed; it would have been very lukewarm of me not to have done that,” said David Pablos.“Veneno” is a young man who frequents remote roadside restaurants where he sleeps with truck drivers. There he meets “Muñeco,” a lonely driver with an alcohol and drug addiction. As they travel together and start to get close, they start selling drugs, and an unlikely romance begins. Everything changes when people from “Veneno’s” past reappear, putting them in danger.“Fatherhood is the central theme of the film,” the director sair. This love story between two truck drivers won the Queer Lion Award 2025 at the last Venice International Film Festival and is part of the Official Selection of the 23rd FICM.With this work, Pablos consolidates his introspective and honest style, delivering a story where the search for affection becomes a form of resistance against emptiness.
