Se ha dedicado a trabajar en proyectos cinematográficos desde temprana edad, como editora, productora, actriz y directora. Co-escribió los largometrajes de ficción de Gabriel Retes, su padre, El bulto (1992), donde también fue actriz, y Bienvenido-Welcome (1994), ambas ganadoras de numerosos premios alrededor del mundo. La primera obtuvo, entre otros, los premios a Mejor Película en el 18° Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva, España, y en el 4° Festival Cinemafest Puerto Rico. Como guionista, estuvo nominada al premio Ariel a Mejor Guión Cinematográfico por Bienvenido-Welcom; por la que obtuvo la Diosa de Plata a Mejor Guión en la 23ª entrega de las Diosas de Plata, México. Esta obra fue premiada, además, con el Segundo Premio Coral en el 16° Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, Cuba, y el Gran Premio en el 14° Festival Internacional de Cine de Amiens, Francia. Participó, como directora, en el 6° Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM), con La luz de la oscuridad (2007), donde ganó una Mención Especial a Cortometraje de Ficción.
