Santa

A pioneering work of Mexican sound film, Santa is the second of four adaptations of Federico Gamboa?s naturalist novel produced between 1918 and 1969, and the version that firmly established the figure of the ?fallen woman? in Mexican cinema. After being seduced by a military officer, Santa is rejected by her family and forced to leave her quiet town for Mexico City, where she becomes a prostitute. In this decadent atmosphere, she seeks redemption in the love of a famous bullfighter and a humble blind pianist employed by the brothel.
