Touch of Evil

In 1970, legendary director Orson Welles began filming what would become his final cinematic opus with a cast of luminaries. The film tells the story of famed filmmaker J. J. “Jake” Hannaford, who returns to Hollywood after years in self-exile in Europe with plans to complete his own innovative comeback movie. This satire—Welles’ last film, completed in 2018—is a fascinating time capsule of a now-distant era in moviemaking.

An adaptation of various Shakespeare plays: including both Henry IV versions as well as Richard II, Henry V and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Usually a comic supporting figure, Falstaff—the loyal and often intoxicated friend of King Henry IV’s wayward son Prince Hal—here becomes the focus. Set in the 13th century England, there is a struggle for the throne after King Henry IV’s death and Prince Hal is immersed in a world of parties, influenced by Falstaff. 

A stark, perverse story of murder, kidnapping and police corruption in a Mexican border town.
