Gutiérrez: Lorena

Direction
Lorena Gutiérrez is an advocate for the rights of femicide victims and a member of Colectivo Varinia. Her public activism began after the femicide of her daughter Fátima Varinia Quintana Gutiérrez, which occurred in 2015, when this little girl was 12 years old. Since then, she has taken part in justice-seeking processes and initiatives against gender violence, while also collaborating with organizations such as the National Citizen Observatory on Femicide  [OCNF, by its initialism in Spanish, Observatorio Nacional Ciudadano del Feminicidio]. Her case was also brought to national and international journalistic platforms, among them El País and CNN.
Her introduction to filmmaking came through her collaboration with director Rodrigo Reyes on the documentary 499 (2021), in which she shared her testimony. That collaboration eventually led to Querida Fátima (2026), a project in which she took part as co-director. The film premiered at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, where it received the Mezcal Award for Best Mexican Film, along with other recognitions.
