Hernández; Julián

He studied cinematography at the CUEC-UNAM film school in Mexico City. His work has been shown at numerous film festivals around the world, including eight editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). His short fiction film Vivir (2003) was part of the Official Selection at the 1st FICM. He won various awards for his first feature film Mil nubes de paz cercan el cielo, amor, jamás acabarás de ser amor (2003), including the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at the 53rd Berlin International Film Festival, Berlinale, Germany; Best First Work at the 3rd Cuenca International Film Festival (FICC), Ecuador; the Mayahuel awards for Best Director and Best Sound Design at the 18th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), Jalisco; and three Ariel Awards at the 46th Ariel Awards, Mexico: Best Supporting Actress for Clarisa Rendón, Best Actress in a Minor Role for Perla de la Rosa and Best Sound Design for Aurora Ojeda and Enrique L. Rendón. His feature film El cielo dividido (2006) premiered at the 4th FICM. It also participated in the 56th Berlinale, Germany, and won the Guerrero Press Award at the 21st FICG, Guadalajara, and the Jury Special Award at the 21st Torino Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (TGLFF), Italy. He premiered his short fiction film Bramadero (2007) at the 2nd FICM, and competed with his short film Vago rumor de mares en zozobra (2008) at the 6th FICM. His feature films La transformación del cine en música (2009), co-directed with Roberto Fiesco, and Rabioso sol, rabioso cielo (2008) premiered at the 7th FICM. Rabioso sol won numerous prizes around the world, including the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at the 59th Berlinale, Germany, Best Photography for Alejandro Cantú, Best Art Direction for Jesús Torres Torres and Carolina Jiménez, Best Director and a Jury Special Mention for his Innovative Narrative Aesthetic Proposal at the 12th Crystal Screen Festival, Mexico City, as well as an Honorable Mention for Best Artistic Contribution from APRECI at the 13th Film Festival of Lima, Peru. His short fiction film Atmósfera (2009) was part of the Official Selection at the 8th FICM and won the Best Short Film award at the 1st Rally Malayerba Pro, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. His short film Por encima del abismo de la desesperación (1996) was presented at the 11th FICM as part of the retrospective for the “50 years of the CUEC.” He won the Encuentro Award for Best Short Film at the 1st Asterisco LGBTIQ International Film Festival, Buenos Aires, Argentina, for Nubes flotantes (2014). His feature film Yo soy la felicidad de este mundo was part of the Official Selection of the 12th FICM. His documentary short film Muchacho en la barra se masturba con rabia y osadía (2015) was part of the Official Selection of the 13th FICM. His short fiction film Common Causes for a Clinical Condition (2016) is part of the Official Selection of the 14th FICM.
